2024 Community Engagement Hero Awards |
Description
The Institute for Integration of Medicine and Science (IIMS) is seeking applications to recognize outstanding individuals who have worked as part of a community-campus research partnership for the improved health and well-being of South Texas communities. Possible award categories include Outstanding Student Award, Outstanding Community Partner Award, Outstanding Research Partner Award, and Outstanding Community Health Improvement Project. Awardees will receive a $500 award for office supplies, conference registration, and/or publication fees (subject to UT Health Sand Antonio policies and restictions).
Who is eligible?
Community members, healthcare practitioners, research faculty, staff, and students who are actively engaged in a community-campus research partnership dedicated to addressing health priorities in South Texas may be nominated.
Individuals may only submit one nonimation per category. Self- nonimatons will not be accepted.

Description |
Outstanding Student |
This award recognizes a student who has demonstrated exceptional commitment and follow-through as part of a community service learning project or internship that has created a tangible benefit for a community and academic partnership.

Outstanding Community Partner |
This award recognizes community members who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and devoted their time, talents, and expertise for improving their community's health and well-being. IIMS institutional partners* are eligible. UT Health San Antonio employees and students are not eligible.

Outstanding Research Partner |
This award recognizes research faculty, staff, and/or trainees who have demonstrated an exceptional commitment for collaboratively developing projects that promote leadership and shared learning to address community health concerns. IIMS institutional partners are eligible.

Outstanding Community Health Improvement Project |
This award recognizes outstanding health improvement projects that address community-identified health concerns. Single projects or a series of projects focused on a community health priority qualify. |
*Institutional partners include Metro Health, SA Military Health System, South Texas Veterans Health Care System, Texas Biomedical Research Institute, University Health System, UTSA, UTHealth School of Public Health, UT Brownsville, UT Pan American, and UT College of Pharmacy.
When will the awards be presented?
Awards will be announced during the virtual 2024 IIMS Community Engagement Symposium on December 7, 2024.
